Google Docs
Connect one Google Doc to an agent, then ask it to read, rewrite or add to the document during a call or video meeting, for example "Make the summary shorter" or "Add a paragraph about pricing after the Market section."
Connecting a document
- Open your Google Doc and click Share (top right).
- Add the address shown on the agent page with Editor access. This is the account TriLuna uses to open your document; it can only open documents you share with it.
- Go to My Agents, open the agent, and switch on Google Docs in the Integrations section.
- Paste the link to your document and click Connect document.
TriLuna checks that it can open the document before saving. If it can’t, you’ll see which step to fix:
- “TriLuna can’t open this document”: the document isn’t shared with the address yet, or was shared as Viewer. Share it as Editor and try again.
- “That Google Doc doesn’t exist”: the link is wrong. Copy it from your browser’s address bar while the document is open.
Once connected, the agent page shows the document’s title and its sections. Each agent works with one document. To switch, paste a different link and click Change document. To disconnect, switch Google Docs off.
How the agent works with your document
The agent splits the document into sections using your headings (Heading 1, Heading 2 and so on). It works on one section at a time:
- Reading. It can read the whole document, but on a long document it reads the list of sections and then only the ones it needs.
- Rewriting a section. It replaces the text under a heading and keeps the heading. Other sections are not touched.
- Adding text. It can add paragraphs at the end of any section or at the end of the document.
- Small fixes. It can replace an exact phrase, such as a name or a number, wherever it appears.
- Undo. Ask “undo that” and it puts back the text from before its last change. If someone has edited that part since, it won’t undo, so nobody’s work is overwritten.
Text the agent writes can include headings, bulleted and numbered lists, bold, italic and links.
Use headings. A document with no headings is one big section, so every change rewrites more than it needs to.
What the agent won’t change
The agent leaves these alone and won’t rewrite a section that contains them:
- tables
- images and drawings
- footnotes and equations
- smart chips (people, dates, links to files)
- a table of contents
It can still read the text in a table, and it can change the words around these items with a small fix.
If you and the agent edit at the same time
Edits go straight into the document; they aren’t suggestions. If someone changes a section after the agent read it, the agent’s change to that section is refused and it reads the section again before trying. Google Docs’ Version history (File → Version history) keeps every earlier version too.
Who can use it
- Anyone who talks to the agent can ask it to read or change the connected document. Connect a document only to agents used by people who should see it.
- Only the agent’s owner or a manager can connect or disconnect a document.
- Google Docs is a paid feature. If you don’t see the switch on the agent page, contact us to turn it on.
Troubleshooting
The agent says it can’t open the document. The document may no longer be shared with TriLuna. Share it again with the address on the agent page, as Editor.
The agent says a section “changed since you read it”. Someone edited it during the conversation. Ask the agent to read the section again and make the change.
The agent won’t rewrite a section. The section contains a table, image or another item from the list above. Ask for a smaller change to the wording, or add a heading so the text sits in its own section.
The agent doesn’t seem to know about the document. Check that Google Docs is switched on for that agent, then start a new conversation.
